Journal Entry 4

Activity:
Made a collectible item with an effect.
Gave the item animation.
Checked out the extra 5,6,7 tutorials.

Invested hours:
3 hours, outside of lab.

Outcome:
See attached build. Power up item spins, floats and bounces, does a sound, makes you big for a while, has a cooldown.

Notes:
Once again, very nicely written tutorial that is very hand-holdy when it comes to the progress through mechanics and layering of features and script control over them, but that some of the steps are not obvious how to complete still makes it a good learning experience, and the provided documentation links are a great start to solving the task.

I struggled a little bit with setting up the animation, because the window does not make it quite clear what gets added/edited when/where, so I overwrote my keyframes many times, or new ones popped up where there shouldn't be any, or the animation just went to completely unexpected values... This will not be my favorite thing to rig up. On another note, the option to "animate" ANY variable was pretty interesting to me. It makes sense that it works, but it's not something I would think of on my own.

All 7 tutorials together provide a well-rounded intro to not just scripting but to Unity usage as a tool as a whole. And while I probably couldn't repeat each step at lightning speed now, I can see myself creating the upcoming Projects, as I glance into these tutorials on the side.
